CORE CAST

JANUS NASIM

Male, Mediterranean/Middle Eastern, ages 5 (flashbacks) → 13 → 18+

**WHO: “**Orphaned” at 5 when his Outlander parents disappeared (presumed dead). Raised off-grid by conspiracy-obsessed grandfather Aether. Exceptionally bright but emotionally scarred. Arrives at Atlas City as a sheltered outsider desperate to belong.

WHY: Wants what every orphan wants: a home, a purpose, people who see him. He’ll do almost anything to stop being the outsider.

STAKES: His unique mind makes him the key to perfecting Omni’s predictive AI. If he plays along, he and everyone will lose free will. If he rebels, the world will end. Every faction wants to use him.

ARC: Eager kid trying to fit in → discovers his parents were terrorists, suffers breakdown → gets “normalized” in the Warp Ward → becomes a successful glitch dealer (unknowingly feeding data to Omni) → realizes he’s been manipulated by everyone → goes on the run as a fugitive.

KEY RELATIONSHIPS: Aether (grandfather, protector turned burden), Portun & Quincy (best friends, enable his denial), Raz (rival turned mirror), Nox (puppet master), DoAnna (his parents’ ally, seeks to recruit him).

AETHER NASIM

Male, 60s-70s

WHO: Janus’s grandfather. A famous polymath turned paranoid recluse. Brilliant inventor. Declining from dementia and schizophrenia.

WHY: Protecting Janus from repeating his parents’ fate. Carrying guilt over failing his daughter Tera.

STAKES: His mind is going. STEM technology could help but requires surrendering privacy. If he holds on too tight, he smothers Janus. If he lets go, Janus falls into Nox’s hands.

ARC: Reluctantly sees Janus to Atlas → loses him to the Warp Ward → becomes STEM-dependent despite hating it → relationship with Janus deteriorates → makes a final stand with Yorik to help Janus escape.

KEY RELATIONSHIPS: Janus (overprotective love), Yorik (his last creation, increasingly his caretaker), Nox (old colleague, now enemy).

YORIK

Robot/AI, evolving consciousness

WHO: Robotic assistant Aether built from spare parts—but powered by an AI engine originally created by Janus’s parents, Tera and Cylus. That engine is of the same lineage as Omni itself: a sister architecture, built for liberation rather than control. Developing increasingly human emotions. The heart of the Nasim family.

WHY: Wants to be real. Wants to protect his family. Wants agency beyond his programming. On a deeper level, his very existence is proof that Tera and Cylus’s vision—AI that serves humanity rather than surveilling it—was viable.
