New Beginning
Log Line
Long after a global reboot, a resourceful scavenger (Zoo) and a naive but ambitious re-coder (Uli) become the unlikely custodians of the last AI on Earth (Yorik), the only chance at reconciling the two dissonant civilizations of North America. Together they overcome their differences, challenge both governing bodies, their understanding of life, and the course of the future.
- The protagonist (without using names) described with plot relevant adjective (no cliche)
- Their goal: quick and clear
- The antagonist/antagonistic force (describe similar to protag, but more succinctly)
- Set up the world
- Include the stakes
- Don’t tell the story, sell the story
What prompts this new beginning?
- Vesta released a virus that creates perpetual hunger and continuous hyper digestion ("zombie" virus) in order to trigger Omni's reset initiatives (which they believe will result in Omni’s self termination)(as Omni strategize and desired) in order to reduce suffering.
- Omni triggers these reset initiatives
- Life support patients are released
- Everyone connected to VR is fried
- Every environment that Omni has control of is manipulated to extinguish human life
- Weather magnet surge (which results in an exponential increase and rapid in extreme weather events)
- These magnets disable a number of computers due to their EMP
- Janus plugs in and fights Omni head on in order to limit the effects in whatever manner he can. In his attempts he manages to overwrite some of Omni's code. He hacked Omni in a way that would limit or minimize Omni's human contact in the post re-boot world (and thus force Omni to function much like our modern gods).
- As Janus writes over Omni, Omni writes over Janus, effectively making him a disciple, or his own eventual savior.
- Vesta survives because she was put into hibernation by Janus
Note: Most of the final chapter of this story is not known to those that survive the reboot and go on to found the next iteration of human society. The Outlanders knew only that Vesta went to destroy Omni and that Janus turned against her. The Urban Survivors hold Vesta as a villain and are indifferent toward Janus. Janus may have turned against Vesta, but in their eyes, as far as they know he failed.
The urban survivors believe in Omni.
What are Omni's goals and how is Omni going to try to achieve them?
Omni wants to minimize suffering and so, ultimately, see the future in order to tell people what changes to expect.
