Movie that takes place after a cataclysmic earthquake. Has detrimental effects all of the world, or at least in the US. A new island is created in the ocean. Fairly large. A land grab is made.

What the Americas would be like today (or in the 1700 or 1800) if they weren't discovered by the Europeans.

A couple about to split. The husband/boyfriend won't give up. They are in the car and he refuses to pull over. Girl wants to get out of the car. He swerves to get on the highway trapping them in the car together. He drives until the car runs out of gas. Over the course of the drive they rekindle their feelings and they are stronger than ever.
